“I wasn’t comfortable with the attention. Neil embraced the whole gossip press culture and I didn’t like it at all. I think actors have a choice of drawing attention to themselves or living on the outskirts of the profession, and I prefer being as far from the centre of celebrity as possible.
“When I worked with Keanu Reeves (on Chain Reaction), I saw what a toll unwanted celebrity has taken on him and I want no part of it.
“I’m not a celebrity. I’m an actor.”
